Lippincott's Nursing Advisor

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor?
Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor is an online clinical decision support and quick reference application for nurses that facilitates quick point-of-care access.

2. What is the primary benefit of Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor?
It gives nurses immediate, efficient, effective access to specific information where and when they need it most.

3. How does it improve efficiency?
Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor takes a nurse directly to the monograph on a topic searched. It also works intuitively. Nurses enter a search term, or choose one from a list, and immediately see the vital data they need, or a list of monographs on that topic to choose from.

4. What are its advantages over similar programs?

  • Ability to access more than 2000 monographs (the majority of the information nurses need at the point of care) without reviewing an extended list of various books and articles that contain information on the topic searched.
  • There’s no searching through long textbook articles or complicated chains to get to the relevant information. In seconds you see what you’re looking for.
  • Consistent use of terms across all topic areas. This means that the most medically acceptable terminology is used across topic areas, for example, acute respiratory distress syndrome, the more medically accepted term, is used in all topic areas instead of a mix of acute respiratory distress syndrome and adult respiratory distress syndrome.

5. How does it function?
There are two ways to immediately access information from the opening screen.

  • A nurse can quickly access the exact information they need from a list of monographs in a specific  category such as diseases, drugs, diagnostic tests,
  • A nurse chooses to enter a search term. If the term entered doesn’t match a specific monograph,  the nurse will see a results screen, ordered by relevance

Once the monograph is opened, the nurse can easily and quickly scroll through information or link to the section of the monograph containing the information needed by selecting that section in the left hand column.

In addition, each monograph contains links within the text that allow the nurse to easily access related content in the overall program. For example,  if a specific drug is mentioned in a disease monograph, the nurse can click on the drug name to access the  drug-specific monograph. Other related in-text content links include links to associated diseases, treatments, and signs and symptoms. The nurse can also link to related content using the Related Links in the right-hand column of the monograph.

The nurse can also search any  word or text in the program by double clicking on the word.
