Program Categories

Specialty Area Programs

Educates and evaluates appropriate nurse diagnoses, assessments, and interventions associated with the care of a patient. The programs target clinical needs of a particular care area, sub-specialty department, or clinical subject.

Interpretation Programs

Builds on clinical concepts to teach the functions of the system being interpreted, and then educates the nurse on how to obtain and interpret the system. These programs provide interactive clinical tutorials that focus on complex assessment techniques.

Compliance & Patient Safety Programs

Instructs nurses on patient safety best practices and governmental compliance requirements such as Joint Commission.

Competency Evaluation Programs

Evaluates, tracks, and reports competency levels of professional nurses employed in specialty care settings with case scenarios and test questions that cover a variety of clinical topics. These programs ensure competency while educating.

Program Descriptions

General Medical – Surgical Nursing Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the General Medical-Surgical Nursing Program is a series of case studies and tutorials designed to evaluate the learner’s knowledge of the appropriate nursing diagnoses, assessments, and interventions associated with medical/surgical conditions. Risk factors, clinical findings, and complications that may accompany these conditions are also addressed. Topics range from pain to shock, from chest tubes to pressure ulcers, from heart failure to asthma. Each module contains a test that assesses the learners understanding of the unit content.

Cardiovascular Care Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Cardiovascular Care Program is a series of case studies and tutorials designed to evaluate the learner’s knowledge of disease classification, pathophysiology, risk factors, diagnostic measures, and treatment strategies associated with caring for patients with cardiovascular conditions. Topics include Congenital Heart Defects, Cardiogenic shock, Cardiomyopathy, and more. Each module contains a test that assesses the learners understanding of the unit content.

Obstetric Nursing Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Obstetric Nursing Program is a series of electronic courses designed to evaluate the learner’s knowledge of nursing assessment, nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, and treatment strategies associated with caring for obstetric-gynecologic patients. Topics include normal and prolonged labor, fetal monitoring interpretation, labor pain management, and more. Each module contains a test that assesses the learners understanding of the unit content.

Behavioral Health Care Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Behavioral Health Case Study Program is series of case studies designed to evaluate the learner’s knowledge of the nature, symptoms, etiology, medication management, and nursing care of clients with various mental health disorders. The case studies take place in such settings as an inpatient unit of an acute psychiatric mental health hospital, the detoxification unit of a psychiatric hospital, and an outpatient day treatment program. Topics include Suicidal tendencies, depression, personality disorders, alcohol dependence, and more. Each module contains a test that assesses the learners understanding of the unit content.

Neurologic Care Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Neurologic Care Program is a series of case studies designed to evaluate the learner’s knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment parameters and nursing interventions for patients with various neurologic conditions. Patient education strategies, pathophysiology, and clinical manifestations are also addressed. Topics include head trauma, cerebral aneurysm, spinal cord injury, and more. Each module contains a test that assesses the learners understanding of the unit content.

Othorpedic Care Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Orthopedic Care Program is a case study and tutorial designed to evaluate the learner’s knowledge of the appropriate nursing diagnoses, assessments, and interventions associated with the care of a patient with osteoporosis. Risk factors, clinical findings, and complications that may accompany osteoporosis are also addressed. Topics include osteoporosis and hip fracture complications. Each module contains a test that assesses the learners understanding of the unit content.

Basic ECG Rhythm Strip Interpretation Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Basic ECG Rhythm Strip Interpretation Program is a series of tutorials designed to explain how to interpret electrocardiography (ECG) rhythm strips. The tutorials in this Program review the anatomy and physiology of the cardiac system and teach the learner how to perform and interpret an ECG rhythm strip and how to recognize arrhythmias on an ECG rhythm strip. Each tutorial is intended to build on the clinical concepts and information conveyed in the prior tutorial. Each module contains a test that assesses the learners understanding of the unit content.

12-lead ECG Interpretation Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the 12-Lead ECG Interpretation Program is a series of tutorials designed to explain how to interpret electrocardiography (ECG) rhythm strips. The tutorials in this Program review the structures and functions of the cardiac system and teach the learner how to obtain a 12-lead ECG and accurately interpret it. Each tutorial is intended to build on the clinical concepts and information conveyed in the prior tutorial.

Breath & Heart Sounds Interpretation Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Breath and Heart Sounds Interpretation Program is a series of tutorials designed to evaluate the learner’s knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, the heart, and the cardiac cycle. The tutorials also cover how to perform respiratory and cardiac assessments and identify basic and advanced breath and heart sounds. Each tutorial is intended to build on the clinical concepts and information conveyed in the prior tutorial.

Medical-Surgical Nursing Competency Evaluation Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Medical-Surgical Nursing Competency Evaluation Program is a series of electronic evaluations designed for use by healthcare institutions to evaluate, track, and report competency levels of professional nurses employed in specialty care settings. Evaluations include assessing knowledge on gastrointestinal, hematologic, renal, musculoskeletal, and other conditions. Each evaluation within the Medical-Surgical Nursing Competency Evaluation Program contains 50 multiple-choice questions that test the nurse's knowledge and critical thinking skills related to specific topics in medical-surgical nursing.

Critical Care Nursing Competency Evaluation Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Critical Care Nursing Competency Evaluation Program is a series of electronic evaluations designed for use by healthcare institutions to evaluate, track, and report competency levels of professional nurses employed in specialty care settings. Obstetric-Gynecologic Nursing Competency Evaluation Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Obstetric-Gynecologic Nursing Competency Evaluation Program is a series of electronic evaluations designed for use by healthcare institutions to evaluate, track, and report competency levels of professional nurses employed in specialty care settings. Evaluations include assessing knowledge on fetal assessment, neonatal resuscitation, perinatal medication administration, and other conditions. Each evaluation within the Obstetric-Gynecologic Nursing Competency Evaluation Program contains 50 multiple-choice questions that test the nurse's knowledge and critical thinking skills related to specific topics in obstetric-gynecologic nursing.

Emergency Nursing Competency Evaluation Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Emergency Nursing Competency Evaluation Program is a series of electronic evaluations designed for use by healthcare institutions to evaluate, track, and report competency levels of professional nurses employed in specialty care settings. Evaluations include assessing knowledge on respitory, gynecologic, cardiovascular, neurologic, and other conditions. Each evaluation within the Emergency Nursing Competency Evaluation Program contains 50 multiple-choice questions that test the nurse's knowledge and critical thinking skills related to specific topics in emergency nursing.

Compliance Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Compliance Program is a series of staff development electronic courses designed to designed to assist healthcare institutions to meet Joint Commission training requirements and document staff proficiency (each e-course includes a testing component). Topics include patient rights, hand hygiene, TCAB, SSI, SBAR, HIPAA compliance, and more. Each module contains a test that assesses the learners understanding of the unit content.

Patient Safety Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Patient Safety Program is a series of electronic courses that evaluate a nurse’s understanding of the components of various Joint Commission Goals and standards relating to patient safety, including when specific Goals are applicable and the elements of performance for those Goals. Topics include patient identification, infection risk reduction, patient falls, and more. Each module contains a test that assesses the learners understanding of the unit content.

Hospital Mandatory

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Hospital Mandatory Program is a series of electronic courses designed to assist healthcare institutions to meet the Joint Commission training requirements and document staff proficiency (each e-course includes a testing component). E-courses within the Program, which are designed for the Hospital environment, may also be applicable to Ambulatory Health Care and Critical Access Hospital environments. Topics include fire safety, body mechanics, restraint use, blookborne pathogens, and more. All e-courses within the Hospital Mandatory Program contain a pretest, a course “unit,” and a posttest. Users who pass the pretest may choose to opt out of or take the accompanying e-course. Those who do not pass the pretest are required to take the e-course. At the end of each e-course, a posttest assesses the user's understanding of the content.

Behavioral Health Care Mandatory

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Behavioral Health Care Mandatory Program is a series of electronic courses designed to assist healthcare institutions to meet the Joint Commission training requirements and document staff proficiency (each e-course includes a testing component). Each course within the Program focuses on topics of interest in behavioral health care environments. In addition to topics that include infection control, hazardous material handling, and more, this program includes a set of understanding the patient courses that focus on different patient experiences, including the adolescent patient, the adult patient, the geriatric patient, and more. All e-courses within the Behavioral Health Care Mandatory Program contain a pretest, a course “unit,” and a posttest. Users who pass the pretest may choose to opt out of or take the accompanying e-course. Those who do not pass the pretest are required to take the e-course. At the end of each e-course, a posttest assesses the user's understanding of the content.

Preceptor Preparation Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Preceptor Preparation Program is a series of electronic courses that evaluate a nurse’s understanding of the components of various Joint Commission Goals and standards relating to patient safety, including when specific Goals are applicable and the elements of performance for those Goals. Each e-course in the Preceptor Preparation Program is intended to build on the concepts and information conveyed in the prior e-course. The overall program is designed to prepare experienced nurse employees to serve as preceptors for new nursing hires, student nurses, or staff nurses transitioning to a new department. All e-courses within the Program contain a course “unit” and a posttest that assesses the learner’s understanding of the unit content.

Clinical Case Studies & Tutorials Program

Part of Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, the Clinical Case Studies & Tutorials Program Set is a series of case studies and tutorials that examine nursing responsibilities in caring for patients with various medical conditions, including evaluation and assessment, nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, and patient care strategies. These modules provide clinical scenarios and interactive learning exercises that address the care of patients with various medical conditions. Topics come from a wide-variety of specialty areas, including cardiology, neurology, behavioral health, emergency, and more. Each case study or tutorial within the Clinical Case Studies & Tutorials Program Set contains a course “unit” and a Posttest that assesses the learner’s understanding of the unit content.
