Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Launches Lippincott’s Online Learning Center

New Online Education Solution Helps Hospitals Ensure Highest Level of Nursing Care

online learning centerPhiladelphia, PA (July 5, 2011) – Lippincott Williams & Wilkins announced today that it has launched Lippincott’s Online Learning Center, an online library of evidence-based learning programs designed to advance nurses clinical and professional knowledge.  Lippincott Williams & Wilkins is part of Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading provider of information and business intelligence for students, professionals, and institutions in medicine, nursing, allied health, and pharmacy.

Lippincott’s Online Learning Center will help hospitals evaluate their nurses’ competence, skills, critical thinking, and analytic ability.  The programs, backed by Lippincott’s Seal of Excellence, are designed to help optimize nursing performance, increase clinical knowledge, ensure staff competence, and improve patient outcomes.   Interactive curriculum formats include online case study-based simulations, real life scenario-based question-and-answer modules, and didactic content-based courses with images, charts and video clips.

“Lippincott’s Online Learning Center gives hospitals the tools they need to assess and improve nursing competence, which will help hospitals meet their ongoing goals to improve the quality of care and patient outcomes,” says Judy McCann, MSN, RN, and Chief Nursing Officer at Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. “Competency evaluation is a critical part of a complete and effective clinical education and training program.”

Many nursing and patient care quality groups support this notion. The National Council on State Boards of Nursing has stated that “competency of all nurses at all levels is an important issue.” Specific assessment recommendations were also noted in the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ) “10 Patient Safety Tips for Hospitals,” as well as the National Quality Forum and AHRQ’s “30 Safe Practices for Better Health Care,” which identifies methods that evidence shows work to reduce or prevent adverse events and medical errors.

The online library includes advanced clinical information, training, and evaluation within Specialty Area Programs, Competency Evaluation Programs, Compliance & Patient Safety Programs, Mandatory Programs, Interpretation Programs, and a Preceptor Preparation Program.  Developed by clinical experts, the Lippincott’s Online Learning Center programs meet the standards of highly respected nursing and medical organizations such as the AHA, the AACN, and the AHRQ.
